Suzanne N. - Spinal Injury Patient & Artist

Artist Suzanne N. with Dr. Southern
Last February Suzanne was enjoying some winter tubing on a hill near her cabin on Little Shag Lake south of Gwinn when she hit a rock and came to an abrupt stop. The pain in her back was instantaneous. After being transported to Marquette General Hospital, she was treated by Dr. Edward P. Southern of Orthopaedic Surgery Associates of Marquette, P.C. Dr. Southern is a fellowship trained adult and pediatric spine surgeon. Radiographs and CT scan revealed multiple fractures in her lower back. Fortunately, there was no paralysis in her arms and legs. Dr. Southern performed surgery and after ten days Suzanne returned to her home in McHenry, Illinois to begin recuperation and rehabilitation.
Two months after her surgery, Suzanne was back to her job as a nurse at Northern Illinois Medical Center and enjoying the activities she loves, such as painting with water colors. To show her appreciation to Dr. Southern, Suzanne did a painting of McCarty's Cove in Marquette. The painting now hangs prominently in the office of Orthopaedic Surgery Associates of Marquette, P.C. located in the Upper Peninsula Medical Center.
